Robinson Crusoe Style Island Retreat
Watch the local fishing fleet move slowly out to sea while waking up to another day of snorkelling over coral reefs, sailing on the Indian Ocean breezes, visiting historical sites, or just soaking up the sun. Twelve large airy beach bandas have either twin or double beds with an upper loft that can be used as a lounge or additional bedroom for children.
The freshest fish is available, brought from the returning ngalawas. Chefs devote their time to creating fabulous seafood dishes and imaginative menus. What a view! - you may not wish to move from here all day, with the sun rising over Zanzibar and setting behind the palm tree lined mainland. Drinks from the bar and meals in the restaurant - it doesn't get much more relaxing than this!
The island is protected by coral reef with snorkelling possible from the beach. The lodge has two sailing dinghys, windsurfers and a couple of kayak canoes, for a leisurely paddle around the lagoon and to explore the outer reaches of the island. Alternatively let the local fishermen take you sailing in their traditional Ngalawa fishing boats to explore the lagoon.
The island forms a small private nature reserve, and there are many resident small mammals; bushbabies, wild pigs, genets, baboons, duiker and suni antelope to be found amongst the indigenous forest and mangrove. Bird life and flowers are abundant.
