Intimate and Stylish Mafia Island Lodge

Located near Utende close to Chole Bay on Mafia’s southeast coast, Kinasi is an intimate lodge situated in an old cashew and coconut plantation. Offering a luxury stay amidst stylish décor the lodge is blessed with the magnificent natural surroundings of the protected Mafia Island Marine Park. The atmosphere at Kinasi is informal and homely. With beautiful antiques, fabrics and rugs it is the intention of the owners that guests should feel and act as if they are at home (but with plenty of pampering and fun).

Accommodation at Kinasi is in either Sea front cottage rooms or Garden Sea View cottage rooms. The five Sea Front cottages are large rooms with comfortable king size/twin beds. All rooms are en-suite and have solar panels. On the front of each room there are open verandas with cushion seats or hammocks to feel the blow of a welcome breeze. Each floor is covered with an impressive oriental rug. Families can be accommodated in a family room (sea front bungalow with two bedrooms sharing a bathroom.

The room designs, furnishings and finishes are eclectic, combining elements of coastal Tanzania, African, Indian and Arab cultures into a historically accurate “Shirazi” style that is unique to Kinasi. All cottages have ample hanging space, a desk and chair, veranda chairs and table, double chaise (for full relaxation), full-length mirror, ceiling fan for cool air and power outlets in the bathroom for hair dryers and electric shavers. The cottages have walk-in mosquito nets that cover the beds, and have been designed for through-ventilation and coolness in all season.

Facilities include the Isis Spa with Thai therapists, a PADI dive and snorkelling centre, a swimming pool with al fresco bar and dining, free Wi-Fi and a business centre, a wine cellar and sunset bar, an antique billiard/pool table, individual personalised service, slide shows and marine life to be seen during diving or snorkelling, morning room service with tea and coffee, a library and music system, satellite television, laundry service and a gift shop.
