Set on the banks of the Rufiji, the camp offers great value for money, in mud-huts and tents.

Selous River CampThe camp is owned and managed by Kenny and Katie: Kenny, a Tanzanian professional trained guide, was introduced to the wilderness at a very early age. Now a seasoned expert on Tanzanian wildlife, as your guide on many expeditions into the bush; be it by car, boat or on foot, he brings a huge amount of knowledge and expertise to Selous River Camp. Katie, first came to Tanzania from England in 1998. A bushgirl by heart, she is passionate about the wild and loves introducing people to its many wonders. All staff at Selous River Camp are Tanzanian, many of them coming from the local village, Mloka. Accommodation is in either riverside mudhuts or standard tents. Spacious Mudhuts have en-suite bathrooms and are more than just a hut! Spend the night in a rustic style four-poster bed, made from branches collected from the lush forest, or refresh and wash off the Safari dust under the cooling shower. Four doors open out onto a magnificent view of the Rufiji River - the ideal place to relax, as you watch the sun set over the water. The thatched roof and mud walls keep the hut cool during the hot days and blend into the surroundings, allowing you to watch rare black and white colobus monkeys feasting in the trees beside the hut. It is both tranquil and private and offers couples and families an alternative option in the Selous. Extra beds can be added for children if required. Alternatively spend your nights in true bush style under a canvas tent! Simple tents are equipped with comfortable camping/local rope beds, safari chairs, a table and palm leaf mats. Evenings are lit romantically with the soft light of kerosene lamps. The seperate, shared rustic bathrooms are clean, airy and insect proof. Children are warmly welcomedat the camp though guests should remember that all wild animals are potentially dangerous and roam freely in the area. Staying at Selous River Camp is strictly at your own risk. Activities from camp include forest bush walks; walking safaris; boat safaris; full day game drives in the park and visits to the local village. |
