Luxury Beachside Eco-lodge on Mafia Island

Pole Pole is a small and luxurious beachside eco-lodge located in the Chole Bay area, near Utende village on the southeast coast of the Mafia Island Marine Park. Set among coconut trees and with its own tropical garden, Pole Pole offers guests a stunning location with views overlooking Chole Bay, the Indian Ocean and the Mafia Archipelago islands of Chole and Juani.

Pole Pole’s seven elegant and spacious bungalow suites are furnished with carved and antique pieces. Twin and double beds are available and another bed, for a child, can be arranged. Two bungalows are “family” type with two rooms separated by the bathroom and a small corridor for privacy. The large private verandas are furnished with a Zanzibari bed, chairs, table and an armchair. Each bungalow is self-contained with a large bathroom and two overhead fans, one on the veranda and one in the bedroom.

Pole Pole offers a combination of diverse culinary traditions and cultures, with an Italian style touch of class. Swahili dinners are served once a week or on request. Most of the food served is organically grown and bought on the island to help fishermen and farmers benefit from tourism development. Pole Pole also has a library and a massage centre.
