Mnarani Beach Cottages

Comfortable seafront Cottages on the northern tip of Zanzibar

The Mnarani Beach Cottages are located on the northern tip of Zanzibar in the village of Nungwi, next to the old lighthouse. “Mnarani” means “lighthouse” in Swahili. A choice of accommodation is available at Mnarani Beach suitable for honeymooners as well as families and couples looking for a wonderfully relaxing break.

There are also plenty of activity available narby including spectacular snorkelling, diving, fishing and sailing to many interesting half and full day excursions on the island of Zanzibar. And although being very peaceful and secluded, Mnarani is in walking distance to the lively village of Nungwi with some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.  Divers will appreciate our close proximity to the Mnemba Atoll.

The Manarani restaurant speciality is, of course, fish freshly caught every morning, coming direct from the local fish market or local fishermen. We like to prepare it for you in traditional Swahili style, and serve it in the open air. An open air bar set in front of the beach offers a spectacular view of the reef and dhows as they sail by from morning to sunset. It’s a great place to relax in a hammock while enjoying a cocktail. Our fully stocked bar offers a variety of cold beers, selected wines, delicious cocktails and tropical juices. You can also borrow a selection of board games such as bao, the traditional game of Zanzibar. Don't leave Zanzibar without having tried a game or two! Other options are to play darts or watch sports on our satellite television.A large library has over 1000 novels mainly in English, but other languages available as well, guests have free internet from 7.30 to 22.30.

An attractive large (56 ft by 28 ft) swimming pool has relaxing massage jets in the shallow water area. In the deeper area you can swim and refresh. Or just wind down at the pool side with a cocktail or two. At night our soft lighting allows you to take a swim whilst watching the sun go down listening to the sound of the waves. Fresh water showers, sun beds with beach towels and a juice bar.

Mahaba Cottage - a romantic honeymoon accommodation, located in a private part of the hotel with its own garden and access to the beach, decorated in local style with wooden floors and walls lined with traditional woven palm fronds. It is self-contained, with kitchen area and bathroom, an open-plan design on the ground floor for sitting and relaxing, and an airy sleeping area upstairs for two people. 
A spacious balcony overlooks the ocean and an attractive garden fronts the cottage. To add to the comfort of this special cottage, there are also CD player, hammock, and an Arabic seating area with many cushions.

Zanzibar House - has 10 rooms offer superb accommodation, with high-standard en-suite bathrooms. The room size is twenty-five square meters; fully air conditioned, with telephone, fridges and tea/coffee making. Each room opens onto a beautiful wooden balcony for the enjoyment of sunrises in the morning, relaxation in the afternoon, and starry skies at night. Several of the lower rooms can be joined for families and groups if required.

Family Cottages - four cottages are perfect for couples who need space or families. They are en-suite with hot and cold water. An open plan ground floor has a sitting area, a small kitchen area with a sink and fridge, and coffee/tea making facilities. On the first floor mezzanine, there is a double bedroom and space for extra beds on the ground floor. Each cottage can accommodate up to four people and is decorated in local style.

Standard Rooms - There are twelve standard rooms, which are arranged in pairs. Most of these rooms face the sea and we always reserve the seafront rooms first when receiving a booking. The standard cottages are simple, but nevertheless private and comfortable. They are decorated in local Zanzibarian style and have an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold water and veranda. All rooms have mosquito nets and fans. Eight are located along the sea front with views to the ocean, and four are within the lush calm of the tropical garden.
 
Fisherman House - offers self-contained accommodation in which you can be totally independent. Located in the garden area, only 60 metres from the beach. Fisherman House has comfortable accommodation for guests who travel with a big family or in a large group. The ground floor has two flats, "Dorado" and "Tuna", each with two master bedrooms, big enough to put an extra bed if needed. There is an additional big dining area and kitchen with all amenities. All the furniture is made of coconut wood traditionally grown in Zanzibar.
