Hilltop Camp with a choice of bungalows and tents with fantastic views across the Selous.

Sable Mountain LodgeSable Mountain Lodge is a small and intimate safari camp with an emphasis placed on a true wilderness experience combined with warm hospitality. A natural spring water swimming pool is situated at the top of the hill offering a fine way to cool off between safaris. On the South side of the camp, a tree-house overlooks the waterhole. Regular evening guests include elephants, buffalo, and zebra.
Eight stone cottages are widely spaced on the Beho Beho hillside. Each provides stylish accommodation, full en-suite facilities, 24 hour solar lighting, a spring water supply and wonderful views from a private verandah over the forest towards the distant Uluguru mountains. The lodge also offers three tented bandas raised up high on wooden platforms to afford the best possible views. For something extra special, there are two honeymoon suites thoughtfully designed to guarantee an unforgetable romantic bush experience. Two restaurants offer freshly produced meals, one at the top of the hill near the swimming pool and terrace affording fantastic views of the game rich hills and the path through the valley used by animals for the tented accommodation. The other, catering for the stone cottages, is close to the tree house overlooking a watering hole and just a few steps from the star gazing snug, the ideal place to observe the pristine night sky and experience the sounds of the bush. The restaurants serve international cuisine, and have well stocked bars, the perfect setting to unwind before dinner. At Sable Mountain Lodge, your safari will be tailored to your needs. Full and half day game drives in open sided 4x4 vehicles concentrate on the north-west sector of the Selous Game Reserve, avoiding the busier routes in the east. Lunch stops are often at one of the many dry sand river beds, watch from the bank whilst elephants dig for water just feet away - a truly thrilling experience. From the lodge, it is possible to venture out on foot, looking closer at the bird life and vegetation as well as experiencing the thrill of following big game and predators. A short drive to a dry river bed is also an ideal spot to start your foot safari. Follow game trails in search of buffalo and the rare Roosevelt's Sable antelope, or traverse the dry riverbeds where elephant dig for water. Selous is renowned for its lakes and rivers; the Lodge operates boat safari as part of a full day excursion that includes a game drive to Lake Tagalala. |
