The Retreat

In a remote corner, far from any other camp, in the Selous Game Reserve, The Retreat is an established luxury safari destination assuring total privacy and an exhilarating experience in the African bush. The hill-top fort looks down to the banks of the river, sympathetically constructed buildings & tented suites harmonise with the surrounds, blending ethnic elements, natural materials and modern comfort.

The team at The Retreat will fulfill your needs and wishes individually according to your previous safari experiences and your desires, allowing you to explore and experience Africa at your own pace.

Six standard hill tents enjoy a wonderful view, on the river bank are three private river suites, with individual plunge pool and look out deck. A fourth river suite is a special honeymoon or family suite with two separate tents and a plunge pool and roofed chill out area. All tents are made up of two layers - a strong mosquito net inner wall and a heavy duty canvas outside, which can be fully open to enjoy the sounds, breeze, and view. Each tent is based on a large teak platform and contain a large bed, lounge, an outdoor bath tub, and indoor bathroom, toilet and shower facilities, sitting and writing area. Spacious distances between the luxury tents, ensure absolute seclusion and privacy.

Various activities from the Retreat are lead by expert guides, half or full day drives, cruises on the mighty Ruaha River, fishing along the shorelines or camping under the stars. All open 4WD vehicles, are equipped with a winch and radio and have been customized for driving on various graded dirt roads and tracks, often sandy, leading to and from the lodge. The lightweight, flat bottomed aluminum boats have been tailor-made to suit the river conditions.

Infinity pools overlook the river and its bathing wildlife, The “Senses to Africa SPA” gives a chance to relax and unwind.

The team of The Retreat will surprise you with bush breakfasts, bush lunches, bush sundowners and bush dinners, where freshly prepared food would be cooked on an open fire by one of our experienced cooks, and served at a nicely prepared table.
