Lua Cheia

Lua Cheia is located at Bweni Village near the northern tip of Mafia on a lovely promontory called Ras Bweni with fine views of the sweeping bay and palm-fringed beaches, superb sunsets over the Rufiji Delta and the moon rising over the Indian Ocean.

The camp is in complete isolation from any other tourist facility, fishing village, hustler or any other disturbance of any kind offering solitude, nature, and complete relaxation.  The stunning beach stretches for 2 km both directions and is littered with millions of shells and beautiful driftwood…. the sand is white and pure and swimming is possible all day whatever tidal changes.

Six large tents are situated under shady thatched "bandas" with verandas leading directly onto the beach.  Facing north-west, the camp takes advantage of the sea breezes during the hot-season and facing the marvellous evening sunsets over the Rufiji Delta.  Each tent is equipped with a seperate en-suite bathroom with solar heated water and lighting. 

The bar and dining facilities are located on the tiny neck of land that seperates the two beaches, simply furnished with dhow-wood furniture and antique leather.  Meals are often prepared on the barbecue with a wide selection of meats, seafood, vegetarian, salads and antipasti.  Hearty English breakfasts are served with REAL Tanzanian coffee and tea.

Lua Cheia has wind-surfers, kayaks, with snorkelling big game fishing and sailing in local dhows all possible from the beach. Forest walks across the island lead to the islands Lighthouse.
