The Old Boma Hotel

The Old Boma Hotel is a beautifully restored 100 year old fort, now a comfortable hotel with up to date facilities, whilst retaining many original features and charm. Located on the side of a hill in Mikindani, overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Old Boma provides breathtaking views from dawn to dusk.

Spacious guest-rooms are furnished with hand-carved beds, Tinga Tinga paintings and other local handicrafts. The rooms are kept cool by high ceilings and thick walls, coupled with ceiling fans. Most rooms have a balcony with a sea or garden view. Hotel facilities include a large swimming pool surrounded by Frangipani and Flame trees with pool-side bar, with the Old Courthouse provides shaded seating.

Guests are served fresh food with chefs making full use of locally grown organic produce, herbs and spices, using a variety of coastal African, Arab and Asian flavours.

A wide variety of activities and excursions are available including trips to Lukwika-Lumesule Game Reserve, Mnazi Bay Marine Reserve and Mikindani guided walking tours.  Sail on a traditional dhow across the sheltered waters of Mikindani Bay to Pemba village and beyond. The journey across the bay can take as little as half an hour in favourable winds. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife; butterflies flutter in their hundreds over the water, occasional Fish Eagles patrol the outer bay and there have even been rare sightings of Humpback Whales.
