Tropical Island Life, Beachcombing and Underwater Adventure on Mafia For a week of blissful unwind and pure relaxation, then our Mafia Island Kinasi Escape may just be for you. If the big game of Tanzania’s National Parks doesn’t excite you then perhaps the thought of powder-white sandy beaches, coconut palms bowing in the breeze and balmy tropical nights under an African night-sky might? Located just 20 miles off the Tanzanian coast, only a 35 minute flight from Dar es Salaam, Mafia Island is a true remnant of the old Swahili coast, a place unspoilt, timeless and unaffected by commercialism. Local people go about their traditional activities seemingly detached from the outside world.
Your island hideaway on this Mafia Island holiday is Kinasi Lodge, set in a prime location on Chole Bay in Mafia Island Marine Park. Situated in an old coconut and cashew plantation Kinasi is an intimate home away from home which provides a luxurious stay amidst stylish décor and the magnificent natural surroundings of a marine reserve. With ambience and originality, Kinasi offers personalised service and a happy blend of African hospitality with a touch of laid-back ‘island life’. Kinasi has an informal and friendly atmosphere and is furnished with beautiful antiques, fabrics and rugs.
For guests who still want to keep vaguely in touch with the outside world, Kinasi also offers a few ‘mod-cons’ such as free Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Kinasi also has a swimming pool - the only pool on the island and a perfect spot for lunch, drinks or a refreshing dip. For most visitors to Mafia the biggest challenge is finding the right balance between blissful relaxation, eating, sleeping and beachcombing. Alternatively you could choose to indulge in popular island activities such as snorkelling, experiencing world-class Mafia dive sites, searching for whale sharks, or perhaps exploring the island on a Mafia island tour.
