Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: Are your guides trained in First Aid and AMS ?A: Yes, all guides that we work with through our local partner are trained in First Aid and AMS (altitude). Q: What are the sleeping mattresses like ?A: Mattresses are locally made, are 2 inches thick and have a waterproof cover. Q: Can sleeping bags be hired locally ?A: We recommend that clients take their own sleeping bags, but in case of emergency sleeping bag hire can be arranged locally for approx. US$15 per climb. Q: Who puts up and takes down my tent ?A: The porters undertake this task. Q: Do you have any advice/information on the effects of altitude ?A: Yes we do - please refer to our 'Climb Kilimanjaro - General Information Dossier' for details. Q: I have read that many Kilimanjaro operators cut corners and neglect porter welfare to keep costs down and sell cheap trek packages, what is your policy ?A: We fully support KPAP - Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project which sets guidelines and best practice for ethical Kilimanjaro operators to follow including paying a fair wage, restrictions on no. of kilos carried and adhering to tipping guidelines. Before a climb commences each porter is checked to ensure they are wearing boots, have a sleeping bag/blankets, a plate and cup. KPAP provides porters with poncho's and warm clothing if they don't have their own. |
