Small Fishing Port on the Swahili Coast

Lindi was founded in the 1700s as a port for the shipping of both slaves and ivory.  Until the 1950s, Lindi was an ex-patriot community, however nowadays, Mtwara has replaced Lindi as the major port and market town on the south coast.

Relax in Lindi on its superb beaches with its sheltered coves where it is possible to snorkel or scuba dive. Visit the market at the fishing harbour where you can get freshly grilled fish, visit the Commissioner's Residence and the Omani minaret, finishing the day at one of the numerous bars such as Titanic Bar.

Lindi has two harbours: the commercial harbour and the fishing harbour where you can get dhows to Kilwa Masoko, Kilwa Kivinje and Mafia.
