Marangu Route
Accommodated In Mountain Huts
Sleeping in dorm-style mountain huts at night (rather than camping) and following a well-defined scenic trail with only one seriously demanding day, the Marangu Route is the busiest route up Kilimanjaro. The easiest and shortest route to Kilimanjaro’s summit, the Marangu Route is also commonly referred to as the “Coca Cola” route.
This is the only Kilimanjaro route that offers the comforts of solar-powered mountain huts and comfortable beds at each camp. The huts are communal, and each bunk has a sponge mattress and pillow. Mandara Hut has 60 beds whilst Kibo and Horombo Huts have 120 beds. Bathroom facilities and running water are available at Mandara and Horombo huts. Basic toilet facilities are available at the last camp.
All climbers share meals in dining huts providing a fun, social atmosphere. Soft drinks, bottled water, and even beer may be for sale at the huts (with prices increasing with elevation). If you are considering climbing Kili on this route we highly recommend that you take 6 days, and build in an extra day for acclimatisation at Horombo. You can either rest or climb to a basecamp below Kibo’s sub-peak, Mawenzi.
