The highlands of southern Tanzania are an excellent place to relax, cool down and unwind in a get-away-from-it-all highland lodge. They are accessible at all times of year with a dry season between May and December and long rains between December and February with short rains between February and May. 

Tea plantations thrive in the climate and the hills are covered in thick montane forest and rugged bushland interlaced with lakes, rivers and streams. Although not on the usual safari routes of Tanzania, the Highlands offer a cooling respite from the hotter arid gamelands of Ruaha, with a choice of activity pursuits for all.

Over 400 bird species have been recorded in the area including Grebes, Comorants, Herons, Egrets, Stork, Eagle, Hawk, Falcons, Quail, Crake, Moorhen, Bustards, Plover, Pigeon, Dove, Turacos, Owl, Nightjar, Swift, Kingfisher, Beeeater, Rollers, Hoopoe, Hornbills, Tinkerbirds, Barbets, Honeyguides, Woodpeckers, Larks, Swallows, Martins, Wagtails, Pipits, Thrush, Warblers, Flycatcher, Babblers, Sunbirds, Shrikes, Weavers and Widowbirds, Waxbills, Indigo and Whydahs.
