Kizimkazi

Historical Village in Southwest Zanzibar

The only remaining ancient mosque in Kizimkazi is adorned with a Kufic inscription which traces the existence of the Shirazi people in Zanzibar after their migration from Persia. Watch the fishermen at work, or see how local women make rope from coconut shells.

Organised dolphin tours depart daily from Kizimkazi. These magnificent animals school in the rich hunting grounds of the cove, employing their cunning to feed their growing appetites. Dolphins are frequently seen in this cove but like all wild animals there is never a guarantee that they will appear.
